In Akobo area there are no hospitals or centres for basic health services. There are 4 unities for basic health services, wanting in qualified staff, buildings and suitable health services.

Motivation
Gatluak James Reat, as well as his colleagues at National Health Training Institute, is studying to help Southern Sudan, which needs specialised medical staff and health services.

Structure of the Program:
The Program for COs training is organised into three academic years and each year is divided into three periods of four months of twelve weeks each.

Degree Achievement
The degree in Clinical Medicine and Public Health is issued by NHTI to students who successfully completed program courses and passed the final examination.
Each year, students will be awarded during a graduation ceremony, attended by Sudanese government authorities, delegates of AMREF and of other NGOs, public personalities.


At the end of triennial course medical assistants will be able to:
  • Apply the acquired technical and professional skills
  • Actively participate to prevention, promotion and rehabilitation services organised in the communities
  • Work in a health staff delivering services and health assistance
  • Manage health services putting into practice the acquired managerial skills
  • Show a sensitive and positive attitude, a professional and ethical behaviour in delivering assistance and health care to the community
  • Continue a constant training and professional update.
